Environmental and Sustainability Policies

Philosophy

Stewart Sutherland, Inc. has a policy of and commitment to implementing systems that support environmental, social, and economic responsibility from a business perspective and from a social consciousness to our community. We will continually improve our environmental performance through pollution prevention as well as sharing information on sustainability performance with our customers, suppliers and stakeholders.

Scope

This policy applies to all employees and operations of Stewart Sutherland. We will continuously ensure the greatest sustainability efforts are made for and with our clients, suppliers, stakeholders and other business partners whenever feasible.

Provisions

Stewart Sutherland, Inc. operates utilizing documented policies and procedures maintained within our Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) to ensure our compliance and commitment to upholding all environmental, health and safety requirements. Our system is audited at a minimum of twice annually by third party auditing agencies and is subject to unannounced auditing by regulatory agencies. Records of audits, corrective action responses, and follow-up verification of the effectiveness of corrective actions taken are documented.

Environmental Criteria

• Inks and Adhesives: FDA approved, low VOC, water based, food grade, and environmentally friendly
• Hazardous Materials: Use of solvents, oils, hydraulic fluids, etc. are minimized and recycled when feasible
• Packaging: Recyclable corrugate, tape when allowed, and pallets.
• Waste Water: The parts washer system maximizes usage and minimizes waste water volume. The wastewater is then pumped to tanks, shipped to a treatment facility for processing eliminating contaminants from entering the ground water eco-system
• Recyclable, Biodegradable, Raw Material: Segregated and sent to a recycle facility i.e. corrugate boxes, ink and adhesive drums, ink totes that are re-useable, shop rags, and pallets
• Suppliers: Vendors are evaluated based on their commitment and implementation of environmentally friendly policies.
• Meet or exceed Federal, State, and Local environmental requirements for air quality
• Weekly, monthly and annual employee training is conducted on waste reduction, recycling and reusing materials
• An established Sustainable Committee meets monthly to monitor and review “green” progress at Stewart Sutherland

Social Criteria

• Occupational Health and Safety: Compliance with MIOSHA regulatory reporting requirements. Subject to unannounced visits by the regulatory inspector
• The liability insurance provider conducts third party audits
• Annual safety training is provided to and documented for all employees
• Right-to-Know compliance is maintained and available to all employees
• Non-discriminatory hiring practices are administered per established guidelines

Economic Criteria

• Cube utilization is as prescribed by the customer. Standard practice is to maximize cube utilization engineering and recommend accordingly
• Transportation is optimized to meet both the business and customer expectations based on delivery requirements
• Administrative and production efficiencies are monitored on a continuous basis and adjusted accordingly to maximize the requirements of the customer and the business
